WATCHING ‘Great Expectations: BBC Miniseries’
Not to be confused with the 253,796 other versions of ‘Great Expectations’, the BBC 2011 version is quite spectacular in its own right. And I am not just saying that because the lead actor (Douglas Booth, yes that dude from ‘Christopher and His Kind’) is spectacularly good looking, I’m saying that because the entire series was spectacularly good. It didn’t try any funny business with the plot, and yet each actor managed to claim age-old characters as their own. Also, the whole ‘doom and gloom’ thing going on with the set/lighting really worked for me. And I cried. Which is ridiculous, because I knew what was going to happen anyway. Watch this if you love dark period pieces, Dickens and a happy ending that only happily ends after much trial and tribulation!
